Time is Just a Human Creation, Anyway
I woke up at 8:00, slightly later than I was hoping, but
knew I could probably make it to Kaihimmakuhari (the location of
the TGS) by or before 10:00. I packed everything up, checked
out, and charged towards the station.
Making pretty good time, I got off the train at around 9:45, and
continued my mad dash to the convention center, many hundreds of
others doing the same thing, though I was the only one carrying
all of my luggage at the same time (no time to throw it in a
coin locker, yet). Upon getting to the convention center I was
relatively crushed to see a steady stream of people entering,
and even more people already inside. I soon after discovered
that "10:00" is actually Japanese for "9:30".
Defeated by lies, I wandered outside into an open area to cool
off. Trying to walk at double my normal speed while carrying all
of my luggage took it out of me, and I must have spent an hour
fanning off with one of the many plastic fans that were being
distributed everywhere. I ended up chatting with some seemingly
random Canadian businessmen, and then headed back in to check
more stuff out.
After making a few more passes through the cosplayers' area, I
wandered around for a bit and then finally left around 14:00, as
my flight was at 18:00. While I wasn't exactly exited about
leaving Japan, I didn’t really have too much choice, as I had
class on Monday.
You Might Want to Move
Upon reaching the airport, I found out that a hurricane was
mauling my current residence, and I'd have to fly to Miami if I
wanted to get anywhere near my home in the next 24 hours. 24
hours later, after that many hours of horrible sitting, my
father finally came to pick me up in Miami, and 5 hours later I
finally got to sleep.
If you haven’t been keeping track, Florida has gotten slapped by
four hurricanes in the last six weeks. Think of it as God's way
of saying "you really shouldn’t live here". Strangely enough,
however, I've not taken a bit of damage from any of them. I seem
to be lucky that way.
Until We Meet Again
In the end, I had a good time, but was somewhat disappointed
with the TGS this year, probably because there wasn't anything
to really surprise me this time around. I didn't even get to see
the 4 minute trailer, though I've downloaded and watched it. I
know where the screen was, but I never seemed to walk by at the
right time for a herd change (they tossed everyone into the
viewing area and used a rope to keep everyone stuck in the crowd
like cattle). Still, much like last time, the convention was a
good excuse to go to Japan and I'm always looking for those.
In a way it's easier coming back from Japan than it is arriving.
When I leave Japan, I can start thinking about where I'll go and
what I'll do the next time I visit. When I arrive, however, I'm
reminded immediately that I'll only be there a mere few days
until I have to leave again.
Now I really should get back to working on my
comic, or something... Fear the last-minute site plug! Hoo
ha!
