This year's coverage of Advent Children at E3 was much the same as last year,
however some new information was able to be gathered from the E3 only trailer.
Square-Enix Presentation and Trailer
Similar to last year, a 30 minute theater presentation was shown which featured
Advent Children along with other titles. A ticket was required to view the presentation,
which we were lucky enough to score each day of E3. Like last year, a strict no
photography/video rule was enforced, so the likelihood of images appearing on the
web from this trailer are very slim.
The trailer however was slightly different to that which appeared on media sites
at the beginning of E3. It appeared to be longer, with many more new scenes and
dialogue.
- An investigation into the aftereffects of Sephiroth at the Northern Crater
came up as finding nothing.
- A Wolf was seen behind Cloud's sword.
- A new attack by Cloud was shown, where he appeared to take his sword and
plunge it into the ground, causing a ripple effect through the ground, which
exploded in the distance.
- Extended scenes of the battle with Bahamut, including Cait Sith riding on
Nanaki's back.
- A new motorbike chase scene between Cloud and Kadaj which appears to take
place over a bridge.
- The first of the new footage of Sephiroth, a quick glimpse of him standing
holding his sword towards the ground.
- More importantly, Sephiroth after coming down to face Cloud is shown landing
on the ground with the camera panning from his feet up to his head.
Other Compilation Trailers
New trailers were also shown for Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus.
- Before Crisis - although a new trailer, nothing really new.
- Crisis Core - trailer is primarily in anime style and focuses around Zack,
Cloud and Sephiroth with many action scenes. A woman talks at the beginning
which is most likely to be Aerith.
- Dirge of Cerberus - FFVII characters, Reeve, Yuffie, Cid, Barret and what
appears to be Tifa are shown. Yuffie finds Vincent in the ShinRa mansion again.
The Highwind is featured, along with a motorbike which has an unknown rider.
Square-Enix Merchandise Display
Advent Children merchandise was again on display. The Cloudy Wolf ring and Earring
along with Vincent's Dirge of Cerberus pendant could be seen in a glass case. Completed
Play Arts figures of Sephiroth, Vincent, Tifa, Cloud and Fenrir were also on display
listing a price of $19.99 for the characters and $60 for Fenrir.
The Play Arts figures were also on display at the distributor's booth in another
hall. This booth also showed the packaging for the Sephiroth, Vincent and Tifa figures,
along with a couple of promotional posters for the figures.
Before Crisis and Final Fantasy VII Snowboarding
Both of these games were playable at the mobile section of the booth this year.
Before Crisis phone straps were given out by SE staff dressed in Turks outfits.
In the playable version of Before Crisis, you took on the role of one of the Turks
in the streets of Midgar. Although the game was still in Japanese, the gameplay
was simple to pick up on. Using the cell phone's directional button to move your
character and the OK/confirm button to attack. Magic could also be cast, instructions
were provided on how to perform a magic attack. The game play is in real time.
Final Fantasy VII snowboarding is much the same as the original version. It appeared
to have the same kind of controls and obstacles. Unfortunately as we weren't very
good at snowboarding in the first place, this game was a little on the difficult
side when played on a cell phone.
Product Brochure
A limited amount of product brochures were given out this year. The brochure
folded out and featured all of the games that SE were showing. The page on Advent
Children contained a few images as well as a brief summary of the movie.
Questions, Questions
We found the Square-Enix staff to be very helpful and friendly this year and
even managed to tell a few of them we were from Advent Children.net. Although the
questions we asked them were unfortunately unable to be answered. We tried getting
some information out of them about when pre-orders were going to be on sale, of
which we were told they hadn't planned that far yet. And we also asked them about
whether there would be English voice actors as well as Japanese. Although we can
certainly understand why they weren't able to answer that one for us considering
the secrecy involved in many things so far.
